1. What levofloxacin and what it is used

Each tablet contains 500 mg levofloxacin levofloxacin (equivalent to 512.46 mg of levofloxacin hemihydrate) as the active ingredient. Levofloxacin is a synthetic antibacterial agent of the fluoroquinolone class of antibiotics for use in the mouth.

levofloxacin tablets are used to treat infections caused by bacteria against which this drug takes effect. Some of the infections that levofloxacin tablets can be used to treat are: sinus infections, infections in patients with long-term respiratory problems, pneumonia, urinary tract infections, skin infections, infections of the prostate.

2. Before taking levofloxacin

Do not take levofloxacin

if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to levofloxacin, to other antibiotics of the quinolone family or any of the other ingredients of this medicine                          (listed in Section 6);

if you suffer from epilepsy, otherwise you risk seizure (convulsions) should be increased;

if you have ever had problems with the tendons (tendonitis) associated with treatment with a drug that belongs to the same class of antibiotics (fluorhinolonitsi);

if you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant;

 if you are breastfeeding;

in children and adolescents. Tablets are intended for adults only.

 

Warnings and Precautions

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking levofloxacin tablets.

 

Take special care with levofloxacin

    if you are over 65 years;

    if you take corticosteroids (eg cortisone);

    If you experience pain in the tendon during or shortly after the adoption of levofloxacin should stop taking levofloxacin tablets and contact your doctor;

    if you have kidney problems;

    if you have severe, persistent and / or bloody diarrhea during or after treatment with the tablets. This may be a sign of serious bowel inflammation following treatment with antibiotics;

Other medicines and levofloxacin

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or may take other medicines.

 

    Concurrent use of levofloxacin tablets medicines containing iron (anti-anemia), magnesium or aluminum (anti acid or burning), the efficacy of levofloxacin can be reduced;

    levofloxacin tablets can cause increased bleeding in patients taking warfarin to thin the blood;

    In combination with drugs against rheumatoid pain and inflammation (fenbufen, iboprofen, ketoprofen) may increase the risk of having a seizure;

    Probenecid, digoxin and cimetidine decreased ability of the kidneys to cleanse your body of levofloxacin, but these interactions are unlikely to have clinical significance;

    Your medicine may also prolong the effect of cyclosporine;

    Concomitant use of tablets levofloxacin antidiabetic drugs can cause high or low blood sugar.

Pregnancy, lactation and fertility

4. Possible side effects

Like all medicines, levofloxacin can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

 

Common side effects that can occur in one in 10 of 100 patients:

 

    Headache, dizziness, insomnia;

    Diarrhea, vomiting, nausea;

    Elevated levels of liver enzymes in the blood.

Uncommon side effects that may occur in less than 1 in 100 patients:

    Somnolence, tremor, change in taste;

    Vertigo;

    Difficulty breathing (dispersion);

    Itching or rash;

    Severe itching or hives (urticaria);

    Profuse sweating (hyperhidrosis);

    Aching joints and muscles;

    Pain in the chest, back and limbs;

    Anxiety, confusion, nervousness;

    Fungal infections;

    Anorexia;

    Changes in blood counts, suggesting problems of the liver and kidneys;

    Change the number of white blood cells in the results of some blood tests.

 

Rare side effects that may occur in less than 1 in 1000 patients:

 

    Trembling of the hands and feet (paresthesia);

    Vision;

    Ringing in the ears;

    Hallucinations;

    Depression, anxiety;

    Lowering blood sugar levels (especially in patients with diabetes);

    Muscle weakness;

    Immune system disorders (hypersensitivity);

    Palpitations or low blood pressure;

    Decreased number of white blood cells (neutropenia)

    Reducing the number of blood cells;

    Impairment of renal function.

 

 

Not known:

 

    Anaphylactic shock;

    Severe hepatic impairment;

    Disturbances in judgment and thinking (psychotic disorders) with suicidal ideation and attempts;

    Increased sensitivity of skin to the sun and ultraviolet rays;

    Heavy breathing or suffocation;

    Change in taste;

    Deaf;

    Bronchospasm, allergic pnevmotit.

5. How to store levofloxacin

Keep out of reach of children. Store in original container. Do not store above 25 ° C.

Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the carton and blister.

The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.

The active substance is levofloxacin. Each tablet contains 500 mg of levofloxacin.

The other ingredients are: microcrystalline cellulose, хидроксипропилметилцелулоза, crospovidone, sodium stearyl fumarate, titanium dioxide (E171), hypromellose, polyethylene glycol.
