1. What ALMIRAL is and what it is used for
The name of your medicinal product is ALMIRAL 1.16% gel. ALMIRAL gel contains 1.16 g of diclofenac diethylamine.
Diclofenac is an anti-inflammatory drug used to reduce pain, inflammation, and stiffness. Diclofenac works by reducing substances that cause inflammation and pain in the body. It belongs to the group of medicinal products called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
ALMIRAL 1.16% gel is used to treat pain and swelling caused by various conditions commonly affecting joints, ligaments (joint connections), tendons and muscles:
Sprains, strains and soft tissue injuries;
Localized form of rheumatism of soft tissues;
Osteoarthritis of peripheral joints, e.g. knee.
Your doctor will tell you what he is treating you for and give you additional information.
2. What you need to know before you use ALMIRAL
Do not use ALMIRAL if:
are allergic to diclofenac diethylamine or any of this medicine (listed in section 6)
you have had an allergic reaction, rash or breathing problems after taking aspirin or other pain relievers
you suffer from asthma.
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using ALMIRAL:
If you are taking other painkillers.
You should not take diclofenac orally while using ALMIRAL gel.
The gel should only be applied to unaffected, healthy skin and should not be applied to wounds or open lesions.
The gel should not get into the eyes or mucous membranes. The gel is not taken orally.
Pregnancy, lactation and fertility
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.
ALMIRAL should not be taken during pregnancy unless the doctor considers it absolutely necessary. Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any medicine, including ALMIRAL gel.
Driving and using machines
There are no known effects on the ability to drive and use machines.
3. How to use ALMIRAL
Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
You must follow these instructions for use very carefully.
The gel should be gently rubbed into the skin around the swollen or painful area. Depending on the size of the affected area, about 2-4 g of gel should be applied (equivalent to a round mass about 2 - 2.5 cm in diameter), three to four times a day, unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor or pharmacist. You may feel a slight cooling sensation at the site of application on the skin.
Do not rub the gel on cuts, wounds or damaged skin. Do not cover the skin with bandages or plasters after applying the gel.
Keep your eyes away from the gel. If it accidentally gets into your eyes, wash them thoroughly with cold water. Notify your doctor immediately.
Wash your hands after applying the gel, unless they have been an area of l< Do not swallow the gel.
After rubbing the gel, wash your hands (unless they were a treatment area.
Sprains, strains, and bruises should improve within 2 weeks. If this does not happen or you get worse, tell your doctor.
If you use ALMIRAL gel for arthritis, your doctor may want to check you regularly.
Use in children under 12 years of age:
It is not recommended to use Almiral 1.16% gel in children under 12 years of age.
If you are not sure how to use your medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Method of application
Almiral gel is for skin use only.
The gel is applied to the affected parts of the body in a thin layer and gently rubbed into the skin. The hands should then be dried with a paper towel and then washed, unless the hands are the treated area.
If you accidentally apply too much gel, the excess gel should be wiped off with a paper towel.
The paper towel should be disposed of with household waste to prevent unused product from entering the aquatic environment.
Before applying a bandage, the gel should be allowed to dry on the skin for a few minutes.
If you have used more than the required dose of ALMIRAL
If you accidentally apply too much of the gel, remove the excess by rinsing with water.
If you forget to use ALMIRAL
If you miss applying the medicine at the right time, rub it in when you remember and then use the gel as usual. Do not use a double dose.

4. Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
ALMIRAL gel usually does not cause problems.
Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders:
Rarely, the following side effects may occur:
Itching, redness, stinging or blistering of the skin where the gel is applied.
Such effects are often mild and disappear after a few days. If they are severe or last more than a few days, you should tell your doctor or pharmacist.
Not known (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data):
Burning sensation at the application site and dry skin.
Very rarely, the following may occur, and you should immediately inform your doctor:
Skin rash spreading all over the body
Attacks of difficulty breathing or asthma, angioedema (swelling of the face or mouth and tongue)
Increased sensitivity to sunlight.
The list of these possible effects should not alarm you. They may not appear for you.
If you experience other effects that you think are caused by the medicinal product, tell your doctor or pharmacist.
By reporting side effects, you can contribute to getting more information about the safety of this medicine.
5. How to store ALMIRAL
Keep out of the reach of children.
To be stored at a temperature below 25°C.
To be stored in the original packaging.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton, tube and bank. The expiration date corresponds to the last day of the specified month.
Always replace the cap after use.
Do not dispose of medicines down the drain or in the household waste container.
Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines you no longer use. These measures will help protect the environment.

What ALMIRAL contains
The active substance is diclofenac diethylamine (diclofenac diethylamin?).
Excipients: propylene glycol, isopropanol, carboxypolymethylene (Carbopol 940), dipropylene glycol monomethyl ether, peppermint oil and purified water.
What ALMIRAL looks like and what it contains
ALMIRAL 1.16% gel is supplied in tubes of 25 g, 50 g and 100 g and a bank of 250 g.
