What Enterol is and what it is used for

This medicinal product is used as an antidiarrheal agent in:

treatment of acute infectious diarrhea in adults and children;

prevention and treatment of colitis and diarrhea caused by antibiotics;

as an adjunct to treatment with vancomycin/metronidazole to prevent recurrence of diseases caused by Clostridium difficile;

prevention of diarrhea due to tube feeding;

treatment of irritable colon syndrome.

2. What you need to know before you take Enterol

Do not take Enterol

if you are hypersensitive to the active substance or to any of the other auxiliary substances of Enterol;

if you are a patient with a central venous catheter;

immunocompromised or hospitalized patients (due to serious illness or impaired/weak immune system).

Pay special attention when using Enterol

In small children under 6 years, it is not recommended to swallow the capsules (swallowing problem). In these cases, sachets are used.

Other drugs and Enterol

Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including those obtained without a prescription. Since Enterol is of fungal origin, it should not be administered with systemic or oral antifungal medicinal products.

Taking Enterol with food, drinks and alcohol

This medicinal product should not be mixed with very hot (over 50°C), iced, alcoholic drinks or food.

Pregnancy, lactation and fertility

Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any medicine. As a precautionary measure, it is preferable to avoid the use of this medicinal product during pregnancy.

Due to the lack of data, it is preferable to avoid the use of this medicinal product during breastfeeding.

Driving and using machines

There are no studies on the effects on the ability to drive and use machines.

Important information about some of the ingredients of Enterol

Enterol contains lactose 32.50 mg per sachet.

If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicinal product.

3. How to take Enterol

Always take Enterol exactly as your doctor has told you. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

The usual dose is 1 or 2 capsules per day.

Enterol capsules: The capsules can be taken with a little water or opened and the contents poured into a sweetened soft drink, over food.

4. Possible side effects

Like all medicines, Enterol can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Rare cases of epigastric (upper abdominal) pain that did not require discontinuation of treatment have been reported.

Very rare side effects: penetration of yeast into the blood (fungemia).

Very rare side effects: angioedema.

Very rare side effects: anaphylactic reaction or shock.

With unknown frequency: constipation.

Not known: serious blood infection (sepsis).

If any of the side effects become serious or you notice other side effects not described in this leaflet, please tell your doctor or pharmacist.

5. How to store Enterol

Keep out of the reach of children.

Do not use Enterol after the expiry date stated on the carton, bottle label or blister. The expiration date corresponds to the last day of the specified month.

To be stored below 30°C.

Store the capsules in the original packaging to protect from light and moisture.

Medicines should not be disposed of down the drain or in the household waste container. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of your unwanted medicines. These measures will help protect the environment.

6. Contents of the package and additional information

What does Enterol 250 mg capsules contain

The active substance is lyophilized Saccharomyces boulardii CNCM I-745

Each capsule contains 250 mg of lyophilized yeast Saccharomyces boulardii CNCM I-745.

The other ingredients are: lactose, magnesium stearate, gelatin, titanium dioxide.

What Enterol 250 mg capsules looks like and what the package contains

Off-white hard capsules.

Packaging containing 10, 20 or 50 capsules in a glass bottle placed in a cardboard box.

Package containing 12, 20 or 30 capsules in an Al/Al blister, placed in a cardboard box.

Not all types of packaging can be put on sale.
