WHAT IS AND WHAT IT IS USED Epivir ?
Epivir 150 mg film-coated tablets are available in cartons containing 60 tablets in white plastic bottles with tamper children or blister packs . The tablets are white , film-coated , with a shape resembling a diamond engraved GXCJ7 on one surface.

It is used for treating HIV infection in combination with other antiretroviral drugs in adults and children . Epivir reduces the amount of HIV virus in the body and maintain it at a low level . Also, increase in CD4 cell counts . CD4 cells are a type of white blood cells that play an important role in keeping the immune system in order to be able to fight infections. Response to treatment with Epivir is different in each patient . Your doctor will monitor the effectiveness of your treatment .
BEFORE YOU TAKE Epivir
Do not take Epivir :
- If you are allergic to lamivudine or any of the other ingredients that are present in the tablets .
Special precautions for use :
Discuss with your doctor the use of Epivir if you have kidney disease. It may be necessary to reduce the standard recommended dosage .
Epivir may cause occurrence of STATE OF called lactic acidosis / high content of lactic acid in the blood / , together with an enlarged liver. Lactic acidosis generally occurred after a few months of treatment. Deep, rapid breathing , dizziness and nonspecific symptoms such as nausea , vomiting, stomach pain , might indicate that developing lactic acidosis .
In patients taking combination antiretroviral therapy may occur Redistribution, accumulation or loss of body fat .
In some patients with advanced HIV infection and of opportunistic infections in the past, the time after the start of anti-HIV treatment may again signs and symptoms of inflammation from previous infections . It is believed that these symptoms are due to an improvement in the immune response , enabling the body to fight infections which may be present with no obvious signs . If you notice any symptoms of infection , please inform your doctor immediately .
Please tell your doctor if you have liver disease. Patients with chronic hepatitis B or C and treated with antiretroviral agents are at increased risk for severe and potentially fatal side effects from the liver and they may require blood tests for control of liver function.
If you have chronic liver disease due to infection with hepatitis B virus should not stop your treatment without instructions from your doctor, as your hepatitis may be resumed .
You should take Epivir every day. This medicine helps to control your condition but does not cure the infection.
PREGNANCY
If you are taking Epivir during pregnancy , your doctor may order regular visits to monitor the development of the child. These visits to the doctor may include blood tests and other diagnostic tests.
Upon reception of nucleoside and nucleotide analogues from the mother during pregnancy , the benefits of reducing the probability of being infected with HIV is greater than the risk of potential side effects .
BREASTFEEDING
Since lamivudine and the virus pass into breast milk , it is recommended that mothers taking Epivir should not breastfeed their children. It is recommended that mothers infected with HIV, do not breast feed their infants under any circumstances in order to avoid transmission of infection.
HOW TO TAKE Epivir ?
The usual daily dose of Epivir in adults and children over 12 years is 300 mg . This voza can be taken as one tablet twice daily, at approximately 12 hours apart or 300 mg once daily. Swallow the tablets with water or technost.Tabletkite can be taken with or without food.
For treatment of children over 3 months and older patients who are unable to take tablets or who are in need of a lower dose , Epivir is also available in liquid form.
POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
The most commonly reported side effects are nausea , vomiting , stomach pain, diarrhea, headache , joint pain, muscle disorders , cough, nasal problems , fever , fatigue , malaise, rash , hair loss, sleep disturbances .
